Under the subheading TITLE the abbreviated title of the collection of inscriptions in question should be inserted from the list of the window SELECT TITLE (when the window is opened, the full title can be seen by pulling the cursor above the abbreviation, e.g. CIL = Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum 1-. Berlin 1863-.). After filling out and saving the first data form, the title recorded in TITLE is automatically saved by the Data Base, so the collector has to change it only if it is needed. If the collector collects data from a collection or periodical not appearing in the list of the window of SELECT TITLE, he / she should consult the  project manager concerning the abbreviation to be used, and / or submit the abbreviation he / she wants to use in the list.

Under the second subheading (CLASSICAL TEXT) of this rubric, the classical equivalent of the relevant text should be recorded, reproduced in lower-case letters (u = u!), with abbreviations resolved, e.g. adiutricis for AIVTRIC (proper nouns are reproduced of course with an initial capital letter, e.g. Augusto for AG, AE 1983, 686, 4). If in the first subheading (RELEVANT TEXT) stands e.g. PIENT[ISSIM ] and there are only two possible readings, e.g. piissimo / piissimae, these should be recorded under the second subheading (CLASSICAL TEXT). If there are more possible readings or the case of the relevant word cannot be determined (which by the way should be indicated in the remark), only the unambiguous part of the relevant word is to be recorded under the second subheading (CLASSICAL TEXT) with a hyphen at the end, e.g. piissim-. If there is no way to determine the missing part of the text, e.g. in the first subheading (RELEVANT TEXT) stands BETTI[ ], Vetti- is to be recorded under the second subheading (it also should be indicated in the remark section that the case of the name Vettius cannot be determined).

a) The relevant text should be transliterated in capital letters (u = V!), in accordance with Latin epigraphic writing. Transliteration should be reproduced faithfully, as it appears in printed editions, with ligatures resolved (i.e. replaced by distinct characters), e.g. AIVTRIC = adiutricis. Papyrus and parchment texts not written in capital letters should be transliterated in lower case letters (u = u!). On how to indicate abbreviations marked in these texts, see point f) below. Abbreviations should be resolved not here but under the second subheading (CLASSICAL TEXT, see below). b) ( ): parentheses indicate portions of text omitted by the collector as irrelevant for the linguistic phenomenon under consideration, e.g. PVELLE () QVI = puellae () quae. c) []: square brackets indicate illegible portions of the original text. The editor's conjecture should be reproduced in capital letters within the square brackets [], e.g. ANOR[VM] = annorum, [P]IENTIS[SIMAE] = piisimae, [DEP]OSITIO = sepultura etc. If the fracture is just before or after the relevant part of the text, only half of the square bracket, either ] or [, should be used, e.g. ]ISCRIBI = inscribi, KARISSIM[ = carissimo / carissimae. If the text cannot be restored with full certainty, only the unambiguous part of the restored text is to be reproduced with an extra space, e.g. PIENT[ISSIM ] (as for its classical equivalent see below). If there is no way to determine the missing part of the text, a space should be put within the square brackets [ ], e.g. BETTI[ ] (as for its classical equivalent see below). d) Those parts of the text which the collector finds to be obscure or questionable should be enclosed in parentheses and followed by a question mark, e.g. DVOB(I?)S for duobus (RIU 1, 83, 3) because of a fracture on the stone (in the datum!); this should also be recorded in rubric 7 (EVALUATION) (see below). e) A single vertical slash | indicates the beginning of new line in the inscription (| = 'ALT Gr + w' on the keyboard). If the relevant text is at the end of the line, the sign | has to be added (it may be significant, esp. in case missing final consonants). If the next word begins with the same sound that is missing from the end of the word containing the datum, the next word has to be recorded as well, e.g. MARCIANV | SER for Marcianus servus (RIU 3, 672, 3-4). f) If there is a marked abbreviation in a word containing data (in early medieval texts, this is usually indicated by a line above the given letter, which in critical editions is most often indicated by italicised letters or letters in parentheses with the abbreviation resolved), it should be indicated in the relevant text with a line above the corresponding letter(s) in the relevant text field (i.e. ◌̅ U+0305: Combining Overline), such as monastiriu̅ for monasterium.

Under the first subheading (RELEVANT TEXT), the relevant stretch of text containing the datum should be recorded, under the second subheading (CLASSICAL TEXT) its classical equivalent should be generated by the collector (see below). The amount of text to be recorded under the first subheading (RELEVANT TEXT) is the minimal string of text that unequivocally shows the type of deviation. For a phonetic / orthographic phenomenon, it is usually enough to record the word in which the phenomenon occurs. E.g. FECIRVNT or CARISIMO shows the nature of the deviation, further elements of the text would be superfluous. For morphological or syntactic phenomena, it is usually necessary to record those elements of the context (omitting irrelevant material, cf. 2.3.b) that determine the interpretation of the datum. Examples: VISO in itself does not show that it is a variant of classical visu abl., the syntagma EX VISO does; therefore the latter has to be recorded. If IVCVNDO PVERO is intended as dat. poss., this fact can be indicated by quoting the full syntagma ARCA IVCVNDO PVERO. With respect to lexical innovation (neologisms, apparently novel borrowings), it is sufficient to record the word itself since in such cases further, more detailed investigation is called for, which the collector cannot undertake during data collection. Lexicological data are thus mere reminders; the collector is not required to do lexicological research to ascertain the relevance of such data (but he / she is not prohibited from doing so). If the datum appears to be relevant from a lexico-semantic point of view, recording the context may be useful for bringing out the intended meaning. Example: credulitas, in addition to its usual pejorative / depreciative meaning, occurs - though extremely rarely - with a specifically Christian meaning 'persistance in one's faith'; to indicate this, the larger context should be quoted: HVC IBIMVS ET NOS | SIT MODO SANCTA FIDES SIT PIA CREDVLITAS (CIL 12, 5350, 9-10).

Under this subheading, the type of text is to be recorded. By default, the type of text is not specified. The text types can be selected from the roll down menu. 'Type of text 1' is a mandatory field, 'Type of text 2' may be added in justified cases (the same list is available in the two menus, from which different categories must be chosen).
